One wedding photographer says: ”If a bridal couple has extra copies made of their photos, the photographer can actually demand compensation from the customer and from the developing photo lab.
The photo lab is punished relatively hard because they are presumed to have the full knowledge of relevant rules and laws.
Having said that, one should remember that the bridal couple has rights, too – rights to the good pictures and to enjoying these privately.
Copyright – and not least the expectations of wedding customers that they are entitled to demand high resolution files for their own (cheaper and lower quality) copying is an industry problem.
A number of wedding photographers are unfortunately escalating this problem because the many amateur photographers offer wedding photos as a “hobby income” and do not quite follow the rules that apply.
